Our 24-day Ultimate K2 Trek takes you deep into the Karakorum, where you’ll journey through a stunning alpine wilderness in search of K2’s basecamp (8,611 m), the second-highest peak on Earth. This is not a routine trip; rather, it is a strenuous journey into one of the wildest and remotest parts of the earth.

We begin our walk by boarding a spectacular mountain flight from Islamabad to Skardu, then we follow the winding routes above the Braldu River before approaching the magnificent Baltoro Glacier.

We journey through the imposing sceneries of the Inner Karakorum towards the K2 base camp while being accompanied by a skilled leader, as well as our knowledgeable local guide and enthusiastic crew. The Inner Karakorum is home to the highest concentration of 8,000-meter peaks on earth. Four Base Camps of 8,000m peaks – K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum-I and Gasherbrum-II.

Explore the Karakorum’s depths with Exploria as you go off the beaten path and into a region that is rarely explored.

  •  Trek to Concordia
  •  Marble and Crystal Peaks on the way
  • Finally surrounded by 4 eight-thousanders 🙂

Views of Broad Peak 8,051m/ 26,414 feet appear on our way up Baltoro, while Marble and Crystal Peaks appear on the left.cTill the minute we reach Concordia, K2 remains concealed a magnificent sight that will forever become a beautiful memory. Concordia is an extensive glacier region, one of the largest places on earth. We’re going to be surrounded by 4 eight-thousanders, 10 out of the top 30 highest peaks in the world. The camp will be set at 4,500m/ 14,764 feet in Concordia on the moraine.

Congratulations! You made it.

Through crevasses and small rivers produced by melting ice, we can begin early. We follow the glacier named after Godwin Austin, who first proclaimed the height of K2. We’ll be at the Broad Peak base camp after three hours, where we’ll have a clear view of the spectacular Karakoram 2nd (K2), Mitre Peak behind us, and Bride Peak. The moraine, which is mostly boulders, we move on. We walk on the moraine which is mostly boulders. However, we do walk on ice occasionally. After another 3 hours of trekking, we will complete the K2 Base Camp one-way trip to the moraine safe zone, a typical K2 climbers’ base camp area. If time allows, one can also visit the Gilkey Memorial. There are names of valiant people in the memorial, engraved on plates and plagues. Those tough ones died while trying K2. It depends on the participants to determine whether to trek to K2 Base Camp, Broad Peak BC, Gilkey Memorial, choose one or another or both options or choose to rest at Concordia on this day. It is mandatory to return to Concordia on this day.

On this day, we retrace our steps back to Concordia and rest for the next day’s trek.

From Concordia to the campsite, a two-hour glacier moraine hike is necessary. The participants will traverse the upper Baltoro glacier to get to Shahring. The participants may see Chogolisa, Snow Dome Peaks, Baltoro Kangri, and numerous more high-elevation peaks from this location. The participants in the Karakoram walk will arrive at the Gasherbrum I and II base camps on this day, where camp will be set up. The opportunity to experience the most pristine and stunning alpine settings will be provided to the participants. The participants can unwind or, if they’re lucky, meet up with the mountaineering expedition teams. The participants can bid the climbers farewell and wish them success on their journey.

On this day, we retrace our steps back to Concordia.

The group will go on a little differently and less traveled. The participants should walk on rocky ice rather than slick ice, and short detours will be made to avoid crevasses. In the event of snow, the competitors and the porters will walk side by side while using crampons that are securely fastened to one another by rope. The participants will arrive at Ali camp after a 5- to 6-hour hike, where the base will be located. The name “Ali Camp” honors a local porter who was the first to pass via the Gondogoro La Pass. The participants will be taught some fundamental techniques once they arrive at the base in preparation for the Gondogoro La Pass crossing the following day.

The participants will awaken on this day as early as 2 am. The participants will leave for the Gondogoro La base roped as a unit after getting ready and eating breakfast. Depending on the circumstance, our support team will be on hand to mend ropes or assist the members with their equipment. The journey to the summit of Gondogoro La Pass takes roughly three hours. All four 8000ers in the Baltoro region are visible to you, and you may experience their amazing views. (Broad Peak, G1, K2, G2)

The participants will continue hiking down. Since the descent would be relatively easy, the climbing gear, such as ropes and crampons, would be packed. The lush green vistas of Hushe Valley will give way to the hilly and stony terrain. The participants will hike to the Gondogoro Glacier’s edge after lunch, where they will locate a track that will take them to a stunning valley of rhubarb and grass. There are two distinct routes to the location near the valley’s end. The pathways that are often frequented by the local porters will be chosen by our guide. When the two routes meet, the hike becomes simple. The participants will see the stone cottages built by settlers and herders in the area. The participants will see signs of nearby villages on this day, and they will be able to breathe easier because of the large trees and lower altitude. Saicho (3,350m), a section of sand with little grass next to the flowing glacier water steams, will be the site of the camp.

On this day, the trip down the river stream of the Charakusa, Ailling, Masherbrum, and Gondogoro Glaciers’ melting water will take the participants only 3–4 hours. The participants will begin to notice indications of homes, shelter, fences, and evidence of habitation. The participants will see the two-story shelters of the Hushe village, where the first floor is where the family lives and the lower floor is used for cattle. The participants can explore the lovely quiet valley and connect with the locals after setting up camp. Then we will leave for skardu afterwrds.

This day is set aside for any possible delays with the hike. Due to delays, we do not want our visitors to miss their domestic flight. Roadblocks are only one example of the many things that might delay things. You may use this time to explore Skardu.

The participants will fly from the airport in Skardu to the airport in Islamabad on this day. At the hotel in Islamabad, you’ll enjoy a satisfying time of relaxation. Weather-related cancellations of domestic flights do occur occasionally. You will drive to Chilas for an overnight stay in the event of a flight cancellation. A car will get you there in eight to ten hours.

In the event that the domestic flight does not run the previous day, this day is set aside for any potential delays. Our guests will leave early in the morning to travel, which could take up to ten hours, from Chilas to Islamabad. If the participants make it to Islamabad on the domestic flight, it will be a free day. You could use this time to explore Islamabad.
